Conowingo Models is a small, family-owned “mom and pop” business founded in 2019 and based in the United States. We manufacture laser-cut wood model railroad kits, offering highly detailed HO scale, N scale, and O/On30 craftsman kits for hobbyists who value realism, creativity, and a hands-on building experience.
Our products are designed for model railroaders looking to build realistic layouts using high-quality model railroad structures and kits. We produce our kits using real wood, precision laser cutting, and 3D-printed components to achieve authentic textures and superior detail. Unlike mass-produced plastic kits, our craftsman kits provide a more realistic and rewarding building experience. All products are available to shop online, making it easy to find unique model railroad kits. We also offer hard-to-find kits and brass locomotives from manufacturers such as Ambroid and Concor.
In addition to our own product line, we are an authorized Broadway Limited Imports dealer, offering premium locomotives and rolling stock. We also carry and incorporate parts from trusted manufacturers such as LaBelle Woodworking, Tichy Train Group, Tomar Industries, Rail-Scale Models, and Moose Creek Trees, giving modelers access to some of the most respected brands in the model railroading hobby.
For our rolling stock kits, we offer a variety of truck and coupler combinations using components from well-known manufacturers such as Kadee, Tichy Train Group, and LaBelle Woodworking, allowing modelers to choose reliable, high-performance options that best fit their layout and operating preferences.
Our craftsman model railroad kits are designed for a wide range of skill levels:
Each kit encourages creativity, allowing hobbyists to add weathering, modify structures, and create unique scenes that bring their layouts to life.
Located in Conowingo, Maryland—near the historic Conowingo Dam and the former Pennsylvania Railroad Octoraro Branch—our designs are influenced by both real railroad history and freelance model railroading.
Our model railroad structure kits range from prototypically accurate designs to imaginative creations, with many offering a balance of realism and simplicity. Our exclusive “Conowingo Railroad” decals allow modelers to create their own railroad identity and tell a unique story.
We believe real wood is essential for achieving true realism in model railroading. Our kits feature:
These details result in finished models that look and feel more authentic than traditional plastic kits.
We combine:
to produce durable, accurate, and enjoyable model railroad kits.
With the acquisition of Sugar Pine Models, we are revitalizing classic craftsman kits using modern manufacturing techniques—bringing timeless designs back to the hobby with improved quality and availability.
Our mission is to provide high-quality model railroad kits and structures that help hobbyists build more realistic layouts while enjoying the creative process of model railroading.
As a small business, we take pride in supporting the model railroading community through train shows, clinics, and direct customer interaction—both in person and online.
We participate in the New Tracks Modeling Zoom program every Wednesday at 7:00pm Eastern. We host a monthly “My Build” segment, showcasing your building techniques, and customization tips. Episodes are also available on YouTube, making it easy for hobbyists worldwide to follow along, learn, and get inspired.
